Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh has completed a procurement process for an ultra-fast femtosecond laser, classified under the education sector. This procurement was initiated under a limited bidding method without prior public call for competition due to the specific technical requirements. The contract, awarded on 5th February 2021, is valued at £172,591.50 and is currently active. The laser will be delivered to the University of Edinburgh's School of Chemistry located at the Joseph Black Building, Kings Buildings, Edinburgh.

This tender presents a unique opportunity for businesses that specialize in high-precision optical equipment, particularly those that have a proven track record in producing advanced laser systems. Companies with experience in photonic technology and those that can offer innovative, high-quality solutions would be well-suited to compete in future similar tenders. The focus on non-competitive procurement highlights the niche market opportunity for suppliers that offer unique or specialised technical capabilities essential for the educational and research sectors.
