This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh is seeking suppliers for the provision of cardiac output monitors, specifically designed for use in an MRI environment, as part of their procurement process. This tender, identified as "NCA20995 Cardiac Output Monitors, LARIF," is currently complete following an open procurement method. The primary procurement activity took place for the delivery to the Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF) located at the University’s Easter Bush Campus in Midlothian. The contract, awarded to Vygon (UK) Ltd, is valued at £70,000 and was signed on 2nd March 2021.

This opportunity represents a valuable prospect for businesses that specialise in medical devices and equipment, particularly those targeting the educational and healthcare sectors. Companies with the capability to provide proprietary solutions or advanced technologies catering to specific medical applications, such as MRI-compatible equipment, would be particularly well-positioned to compete in similar tenders in the future. The use of innovative monitoring technologies that enhance patient care, especially in intensive care settings, can further attract attention from institutions seeking to improve their healthcare delivery.

"description": "The MRI that has been purchased for LARIF requires 2 cardiac output monitors which can be used within the MR environment. Vygon are the only supplier that uses proprietary software which can be used with the MRI system that has been purchased and installed for the facility. Cardiac output (CO) is an important and valuable physiological variable, the measurement of which can add a great deal of information to, and improve the care of, intensive care patients. Pressure recording analytical method (PRAM) is a non-invasive method of measuring cardiac output providing second-by-second information about a patient's cardiovascular status. The \"MostCare Up\" is a PRAM-CO monitor which has been used over a wide range of haemodynamic states and as proven itself comparable with the invasive \"gold-standard\" methods of CO measurement, as detailed in this paper (https://bjanaesthesia.org/article/S0007-0912(17)34926-7/abstract). As an increasing proportion of the experimental work at Roslin involves porcine models of human cardiovascular disease, accurate cardiac output monitoring will be become more important if these models are to be truly translational and accurately mimic a human ICU setting. The \"MostCare Up\" uses proprietary software to calculate CO according to PRAM, which as mentioned above has proven under in a variety of haemodynamic conditions and Vygon are the only UK suppliers of this monitor.
