Summary of the contracting process

The University of Strathclyde is initiating a procurement process for the supply of High Temperature Materials, specifically targeting products such as Molybdenum-Halfnium-Carbon (MHC). This procurement is in the planning phase, with interested suppliers encouraged to submit notes of interest by 7th June 2021. The requirement is focused on delivering goods for use in high-temperature applications, pertinent to the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS). The deliverables are expected to be based in Glasgow, with the procurement classification indicating a focus within the goods sector, particularly in education-related manufacturing.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses involved in material science and high-temperature manufacturing, particularly those specialising in alloys or similar high-performance materials. Enterprises that can demonstrate capabilities in providing materials suitable for extreme thermal and mechanical conditions would be well-positioned to compete. Engaging with this procurement could enable businesses to expand their reach and establish a foothold within the advanced manufacturing sector in Scotland.

Notice Title

Supply of High Temperature Material

Notice Description

The National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) is seeking notes of interest for the supply and delivery of High Temperature Materials such as Molybdenum-Halfnium-Carbon (MHC), other such variants may be considered.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) is seeking notes of interest for suppliers who are able to supply and deliver the required High Temperature Material. A requirement has emerged for the provision of a high temperature material for the manufacture of an isothermal die stack capable of operating within an isothermal forging vacuum chamber at a temperature of 13000C and loads of up to 2000 tons. This material should take the form of a molybdenum based alloy which can withstand such temperatures and should be capable of operating within the temperature range of 9000C and 13000C in a vacuum or inert gas atmosphere. Approximately dimensions are in the region of 400mm in diameter and 200mm in height. MHC is one such material which could be proposed. Other variants of such materials may be considered if deemed suitable. The proposed material should possess outstanding thermal and creep resistance and should also be capable of withstanding extreme thermal and mechanical loads in service. NMIS may hold information sessions with suppliers who note an interest in this requirement
