Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh is seeking to procure the Sartorius Incucyte Sx1HD/2CLR System Package, featuring x4 and x20 Objective Modules. This procurement falls within the education industry and is located in Edinburgh, UK. The procurement method utilised is an open procedure, and the contract was awarded on 26 April 2021, with the total contract value amounting to £57,983. The delivery location for the equipment is specified as The Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh, with the relevant regulations under the Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016 allowing for an award without competition based on technical justification.

This contract presents a significant opportunity for suppliers of advanced laboratory equipment, particularly those specialising in biological research tools and automated systems. Businesses with expertise in manufacturing or supplying innovative scientific instruments would be well-suited to compete for similar tenders in the future, especially companies with capabilities in developing products that cannot easily be substituted or matched by competitors. Given that this award was solely based on technical suitability, suppliers with unique offerings that enhance operational efficiency in regenerative medicine or cell culture research should consider engaging with the University of Edinburgh for potential future contracts.

"description": "Market research conducted and no other system offers in situ automatic scanning of various vessels inside a tissue culture incubator. Other systems at around the same price require removal of vessels from incubator to be manually scanned one at a time and the software attached to them does not provide the functions we require therefore would not be of any use. More expensive systems over 100K still do not offer these functions as they are geared towards high content screening of specific plates and do not give flexibility or same resolution. A main function we use the system for is producing growth curves for cells under different conditions, they can be scanned at regular intervals including overnight and software enables direct conversion into a graphed result/comparison. There are no other competitors that can offer the capabilities we require. (SC Ref:652072)",
