"description": "The Nadia Instrument is a platform enabling single cell sequencing applications. These approaches are used widely at UoE, particularly single cell RNA sequencing. The Nadia Innovate allows for technological developments in single cell sequencing, which fit the research requirements of the Roslin Institute, where there exists a demand to develop a range of different single cell sequencing methodologies applied to farmed animal genomics and health research. At the Roslin Institute, single cell sequencing is part of the campus strategic research plan and will be featured heavily in the upcoming Institutional Strategic Programmes. The Nadia Instrument and Nadia Innovate module offer technical and non-technical capabilities that are unique on the market, which, importantly, align to the strategic research requirements of the Roslin Institute. Unique technical features of the Nadia and their specific relevance to Roslin Institute needs include: 1. Temperature control with a range of 4 - 40degC. This is important, as the Roslin Institute works with a range of different species, including mammals and fishes with body temperatures scaling across the range of control. This allows cells to be captured at physiologically relevant temperatures, avoiding activation of temperature induced stress genes. 2. The system allows a large range of capture bead sizes. This is important due to the diversity of different cell types that are researched at the Roslin Institute, including very large cell types, but also because this feature allows for research applications to be developed to isolate bacteria and potentially study host-pathogen interactions. 3. The system has 3 pressure pump-driven flow channels with independent control of each channel, as well as full control over the pressure settings. This is important as it allows for greater flexibility in the formulation of buffers used to encapsulate cells, which can be tailored to optimize the outcomes of single cell RNA-Sequencing (e.g. using a buffer matched to the cells requirements) and also because it allows for novel research applications, such as encapsulating single cells and culturing them in situ. These novel research applications are in demand at the Roslin Institute. (SC Ref:652073)",
