Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for providing print books and standing orders has been initiated by APUC, a central purchasing body, located in Stirling, UK. The project concerns the supply of academic content in both English and foreign languages to higher education and further education institutions across Scotland. The procurement method adopted is an open procedure, with the tender status currently complete. This procurement includes two lots, one for English language and UK non-English language publications and another for foreign language publications, with key contracts valued at £8 million and £1 million respectively. The procurement process is designed to cover a broad range of delivery locations throughout Scotland and is expected to generate community benefits such as donations to local charities and internship opportunities.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses in the publishing and educational resources sectors, particularly those providing print and digital academic content. Suppliers, both SMEs and larger companies, specialising in books or educational materials would be well-suited to compete in this procurement. The framework agreement allows for multiple contractors to be appointed, encouraging collaboration and innovation among bidders. With the delivery expected to cater to established institutions like the National Library of Scotland and the National Museum of Scotland, companies able to meet the diverse needs of these clients will find a fruitful area for expansion and partnership.
