Notice Description

The objective of the project is to refurbish the Shaky Bridge that crosses the River Lednock approximately 2km north of the village of Comrie. The bridge has twin steel primary beams and a timber deck. The span of the bridge is approximately 25m.

The objective of the project is to refurbish the Shaky Bridge that crosses the River Lednock approximately 2km north of the village of Comrie. The bridge has twin steel primary beams and a timber deck. The span of the bridge is approximately 25m. Unusually, the bridge deck is partially supported by a tree on the north bank. The condition of the tree has deteriorated and it has been determined that it can no longer be considered suitable for supporting the bridge structure. Access to site is via a private track that serves Balmuick farm. This track crosses several minor watercourses which have net been inspected or assessed. The Contractor will be required to assess these crossings and provide any temporary strengthening required for safe passage of plant and materials. The scope of work o Assessment of access route for use by construction traffic, and any upgrading works required e.g. widening, strengthening of bridges/culverts etc. o Dilapidation survey of the existing track with photographic record of its condition prior to the commencement of the works. o Establish construction compound, laydown area etc. o Design and installation of crane pads as required for dismantling of bridge. o Temporary works to secure working area from river flows e.g. cofferdam. o Dismantling of bridge o Removal of tree from north bank, including grubbing out of roots o New in-situ reinforced concrete abutment on north bank o Fabrication and installation of new galvanised steel beams and support o Modifications to existing steelwork o Refurbishment of timber deck. o Installation of bridge structure provided by PKC in palletised form (treated larch). o Reinstatement of tracks, compound and working areas. The engineering activities shall be completed by 30 September 2021, proposed changes to the completion date shall be submitted in writing for approval by SEPA. If not viable the works would be June 2022.. This procurement activity is non regulated and will be published as a quick quote.
