STRATHCLYDE PARTNERSHIP FOR TRANSPORT (UTILITIES)

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is conducting a procurement process for the "Variable Speed Drive Installation for the Glasgow Subway", focusing on modernising the water pumping system within the subway infrastructure. This project falls under the services category within the transport industry and is located in Glasgow, UK. The procurement method utilised is a selective procedure, and the tender process is complete, with an award granted to EDC (Scotland) Ltd on 1st March 2022. The contract value amounts to £200,000 and is expected to last for an initial duration of 12 months, with a potential extension up to three years.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those engaged in engineering and technology solutions related to transport infrastructure. Companies specialising in variable speed drive technology, mechanical engineering, and energy efficiency improvements would be especially well-suited to compete for similar future tenders. The awarded contract is part of a broader initiative to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, highlighting an ongoing demand for innovative solutions in public utilities that may benefit SMEs with relevant expertise.

Notice Title

Variable Speed Drive Installation for the Glasgow Subway

Notice Description

As a Subsurface operation Glasgow Subway experiences water ingress into its Tunnels system that is managed by a water pumping system that consists of 21 separate Sump locations and 43 Pump sets spread across the Subway infrastructure. Installed within these Sumps are either 2 or 3 Pumps sets, dependent on the water flow that is managed at that location. All pump sets operate on Duty/Standby configuration with the duty alternating between each pump. The Sump Pump starter control arrangements have been installed in a 'Direct on Line' (DOL) configuration that is both energy inefficient and produces a high mechanical shock on the pump set itself. SPT wishes to upgrade and modernise a number of these Pump sets to utilise Variable Speed Drive (VSD) Technology and to bring with it benefits of less mechanical wear through a ramped start up operation and also look to reduce where possible the speed of the pumps to harness Energy and Carbon emission reduction.
