The Burial and Cremation Team is progressing with implementation of the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 (the '2016 Act'). A key component of this is developing an inspection regime which will include burial authorities, cremation authorities, and funeral directors.

The Burial and Cremation Team is progressing with implementation of the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 (the '2016 Act'). A key component of this is developing an inspection regime which will include burial authorities, cremation authorities, and funeral directors. This inspection regime will also interact with a new licensing scheme for funeral directors, as part of the Scottish Government's wider regulation of the funeral sector under the 2016 Act.
Renewal: The contract is expected to commence in early April 2022 and expire in late March 2024, with the option to extend by a further 24 months, at the sole discretion of the Scottish Government.
