"description": "The major capability that we currently depend upon for our metabolomics and natural product characterisation work with our current LTQ Orbitrap XL system is the collection of accurate mass MS ion trees, applying multiple methods of fragmentation, CID and HCD. Currently we must pre-fractionate samples via HPLC, and then collect accurate mass ion trees offline, a procedure that can require weeks to collect data up to MS5>MS10. With modern IQX Orbitrap technology, thanks to much improved scan rates, and through repeat analyses and automated stitching together of multiple MSn ion tree profiles, this procedure can now be performed online with UHPLC, removing the requirement to pre-fractionate samples, and reducing the workflow time commitment from the scale of weeks to hours. The Thermo Orbitrap IQX Tribrid is the latest model and is unique in design. Whilst other ion traps do exist on the market, they only provide nominal mass accuracy, not accurate mass. Likewise, whilst other accurate mass systems exist on the market, they only provide MS and MS/MS capabilities (at best allowing collection of pseudo MS3 data through applying in source fragmentation). High levels of resolution, mass accuracy, the capability to collect ion trees to MS10 with multiple fragmentation methods, and intuitive software for automated spectral tree acquisition and interpretation (AquireX and MassFrontier), when combined, give analytical capabilities that are not available with any other existing mass spectrometry system or suite of data acquisition and processing software packages. Therefore, the only way that we can maintain and improve upon the throughput of our current capabilities, i.e. collection of accurate mass MS spectral trees up to MS10, is to invest in a Thermo Orbitrap IQX system with AcquireX (SC Ref:692489)",
