Summary of the contracting process

The NSS National Procurement is looking to initiate a new procurement process for Low Vision Aids, as part of its commitment to the National Low Vision Service for Scotland. The procurement is currently in the planning stage, with a total estimated value of £3.5 million. Interested suppliers should note that the framework agreement is expected to be tendered in July 2022 and will encompass multiple primary care locations across all Health Board regions in Scotland, including rural and island areas. The service is set to be implemented as a phased rollout over four years, concluding by the end of the 2026/27 financial year.

This procurement presents a significant opportunity for suppliers in the healthcare and assistive technology sectors to expand their business. Companies that manufacture or supply low vision aids, including UV filters, magnifiers, and electronic devices, would be well-suited to compete for this tender. With an anticipated patient assessment increase of 20,000 individuals in the final year, businesses that can deliver innovative and effective solutions for low vision can position themselves strategically within this growing market.
