Award

Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer.

UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

This public procurement record has 1 release in its history.

Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh recently awarded a contract for an Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer. The procurement method used was a limited award procedure without prior publication of a call for competition. This instrument is crucial for hyperspectral measurements in atmospheric sciences, wildfire ecology, and volcanology. The University of Edinburgh, located in Edinburgh, UK, issued this tender under the education industry category. The procurement process concluded with an active contract signed on 27th March 2023, worth £58,994.33.

This tender for an Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer presents opportunities for businesses operating in the goods sector, especially those with expertise in scientific instrument manufacturing. The unique requirements of this tender, such as operating in volcanic field conditions and meeting specific weight restrictions, necessitate specialised capabilities. SMEs with technical competencies in portable instrumentation and environmental monitoring may find this tender particularly suited to their strengths. Suppliers keen on innovation and addressing niche market needs could leverage this opportunity to expand their presence in the scientific research equipment market.

Notice Title

Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer.

Notice Description

Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer for hyperspectral measurements in the 1.5 to 15.5 mm spectral range, used to provide point measurements in support of atmospheric sciences, wildfire ecology, and volcanology.

Lot Information

Lot 1

An Open Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer is required in NERC Field Spectroscopy Facilities to support the UK volcanology community. In order to study volcanoes using the FTIR, it is critical that the instrument can be brought to the rim of the volcano, where short range observations can be made. This purchase meets the requirements to operate under volcanic field conditions. Due to Health and Safety reasons, the OP FTIR field instruments are required to fall below 10 kg weight per unit instrument. This OP-FTIR falls below 10kg and also prevents the fouling of the telescope attachment with particulate or volcanic gases.

Procurement Information

This instrument is the only OP-FTIR that meets the requirements to operate under volcanic field conditions, including portability requirement to fall below 10 kg weight per unit instrument, and prevents fouling of the telescope attachment with particulate or volcanic gases.
