Lot Information

Lot 1

Researchers use information about eye movements and fixations to assess attentional processes, compare group behaviour, measure stimuli-induced visual responses, and more. This purchase will help the University to achieve its strategic goals of Excellence in International Research & Impact. Excellence in Education & Training and Excellence in Transdisciplinary & Methodological Innovation: Excellence in International Research & Impact: This package is critical to the delivery of our commitments on major international, externally-funded collaborative research grants from the Volkswagen Stiftung Foundation, AHRC and Horizon Europe, as well as being critical to our participation in a current ESRC Centre bid, led by the London School of Economics. Delivery on these grants is central to our REF publication strategy and to the generation of additional research grant income in the REF cycle. The equipment is also essential to allow the Neuropolitics Research Lab to fulfill its wider research impact goals through collaboration with its industry partners ICR & M&C Saatchi World Services in the Digital Influence and Intelligence Lab, where recent consultancy projects have included the Scottish Government, the European Commission and the British Council; Excellence in Education & Training: The package is required (a) to allow the Neuropolitics Lab to continue to deliver innovative and hands-on lab-based experiences to taught undergraduate & postgraduates in SPS, as well as to post-graduate students on the MSC Futures Programmes delivered by the Edinburgh Futures Institute. (b) to allow students from undergraduate to PhD to conduct personal innovative interdisciplinary research projects using experimental methods (c) to allow us to further develop our executive education provision on digital influence, and to demystify digital and experimental research approaches for policy-makers. Excellence in Interdisciplinary & Methodological Innovation: The Neuropolitics Research Lab is at the fore-front of transdisciplinary innovation and methodological development in the study of political behaviour, political identity and public policy. The transdisciplinary combination of cutting-edge approaches from the social and affective neurosciences, computational social science and political psychology led from a social science perspective, allows the School of Social & Political sciences, the Edinburgh Futures Institute and the University of Edinburgh to occupy a unique space in this rapidly emerging and developing field. It is essential that our equipment is up to date, scalable and fit for purpose to allow us to contribute to these University-level strategic goals of excellence in international research & impact, education & training, and in interdisciplinary and methodological innovation.

Procurement Information

Competition is absent for technical reasons, as there are no reasonable alternative or substitute products in existence. Research conducted by several schools and departments within the University of Edinburgh over recent years has confirmed that this supplier is the sole provider of this package. The risks associated with sourcing, implementing and using bespoke, untested, non-compatible support packages at this stage to meet the University's immediate teaching, research and impact commitments would be high.
