Notice Title

Supply of Vessel, Fair Isle - Pre-Tender Market Engagement

Notice Description

Market engagement event to engage with the shipbuilding market on a forthcoming tender opportunity in relation to new vessel build for Shetland Islands Council and their Fair Isle ferry route.

Lot Information

Lot 1

Shetland Islands Council and their consultants Macduff Ship Design and Stantec UK Ltd. is facilitating a pre-tender market engagement event in relation to the supply/build of a new vessel required for the Fair Isle Ferry Replacement project. A new vessel is required to operate on the Fair Isle ferry route, within the Shetland Inter-Island Ferry network. The Council has a requirement for a new build approx. 24 metre vessel which: - Complies with the Maritime and Coastguard Agencies Workboat Code - 3rd edition. - Operates on a lift on - lift off service - Is roll on - roll off capable for a limited number of vehicles and interfaces with linkspans already in operation across the inter-island ferry network The vessel will be located, crewed and operated from the island of Fair Isle (approximately 25 miles south of Shetland mainland). The ferry operation, whilst predominantly freight, is also a key element of the inter-island transport solution for Fair Isle, alongside the inter-island air service, and frequently carries passengers on the route, therefore passenger comfort is also an important feature of the requirements for a new vessel. The priorities of the vessel are; - Vessel to be built to Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) workboat code - Proven equipment / technology - Mechanical simplicity - Sufficient cargo hold volume and deck space for anticipated cargo loads - Strengthened hull for regular slipway operations - Maximum free running speed for this size and type of vessel - Passenger safety and comfort within passenger areas. Interested parties are invited to attend a market engagement event where the following will be covered: - Area of and the existing operation - Project overview - Specification of vessel - Project programme - Q&A The event is scheduled that interested parties can attend: - Friday 26th July - Stantec, Capital Square, 58 Morrison Street, Edinburgh time to be confirmed. Interested parties should register their interest by emailing fairisleferryproject@shetland.gov.uk stating they would like to attend, which will be followed up with conformation and an official invitation. Interested parties who are unable to attend the event, should inform us via the same mailbox.
