Summary of the contracting process

Glasgow City Council has completed the procurement process for courier services required for picking up and dropping off prepared meals and related sundry products across Glasgow. The awarded contract is valued at approximately £1,705,996 and the procurement was conducted using an open procedure under the services category, specifically classified under CPV code 64120000. This contract is crucial for servicing various venues throughout the city, with the council acting as the central purchasing body. Originally active as of October 2024, the tender specified a key submission deadline on 18th November 2024, which marked the beginning of the award period. The procurement process falls under the legal framework provided by the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015.

This tender creates significant opportunities for businesses specialising in logistics and delivery services to tap into consistent and potentially high-volume work within the public sector. Large-scale firms with existing capabilities in fleet management and meal distribution would be particularly well-suited to compete, although the contract also attracted interest from Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). Particularly, suppliers capable of electronic submission have been involved, indicating a streamlined procurement approach. The focus on quality and competitive pricing, as highlighted by the award criteria (80% price, 20% quality), means businesses that excel in these areas have substantial growth potential by delivering on this public sector contract, setting a precedent for future opportunities in similar sectors.
