Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Government has awarded a contract for the upgrade of a VS200 Slide Scanning Microscope System. The procurement process was initiated in October 2024, and the contract was signed on 29 January 2025. The project falls under the industry category of Environmental Protection and is located at the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen. The procurement stage has been completed with the award made to Evident Europe GmbH through an open procedure. The total value of the contract is GBP 47,839.61, and it includes enhancements to the microscope system such as the addition of fluorescence microscopy capabilities and an automatic oil dispenser for improved resolution and analysis.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in high-resolution imaging and microscopy equipment. The project requires technical upgrades to an existing microscope system, making it an attractive proposition for companies with expertise in advanced microscopy techniques and equipment enhancement. Businesses capable of delivering technical upgrades and improvements in imaging technology, particularly those experienced in fluorescence microscopy and precision mechanics, would be well-suited to engage with similar procurement opportunities to expand their market presence and demonstrate their technical capabilities.

Lot Information

Lot 1

The Scottish Ministers invites tenders for the upgrade of a VS200 Slide Scanning Microscope System. The Olympus VS200 research slide scanner is a versatile imaging platform capable of performing high-resolution digitization and analysis of microscopy slides. The instrument currently has two areas where we are seeking an upgrade to:- i) it is optimised for brightfield microscopy only. An upgrade to include fluorescence microscopy is required to expand capability for advanced analysis. ii) The microscope already has a 60x oil-immersion lens, but to use it requires addition of an automatic oil dispenser to ensure consistent and precise application of immersion oil. We are currently limited to using a 40x air objective lens. Ability to use the 60x oil-immersion lens will greatly improve the available resolution of scans for analysis and diagnosis.
