Fife Employment Access Trust are seeking a musician to lead a series of workshops with young adults and co-produce a soundscape on a self-employed basis. Silverburn Park Background A major community-led initiative for wellbeing, enterprise and employment, benefiting the people of Levenmouth and beyond. Once home to the Russell Family, Silverburn Park was gifted to the town council in 1973 and for many years ran as an animal farm, a craft centre and hosted campers and a range of events. The activities and buildings closed during the 1990s. The currently derelict B-listed former Flax Mill building will be brought back to life, creating a sustainable and iconic centre piece for Silverburn Park. In 2019, Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) signed a lease agreement with an aim to regenerate the park for a sustainable future. Silverburn Flax Mill will be transformed into a cafe, hostel and event space thanks to our funders, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Alongside the funding for the renovation works, the National Lottery Heritage Fund also support a wide range of activities to engage the general public, park visitors and FEAT's service users. The Activity Plan is well underway and groups and individuals of all age groups have been involved in projects connecting heritage, community and wellbeing. One of the agreed activities is a soundscapes project, for which we are seeking a Project Lead on a self-employed basis. Brief Music, composition & editing workshops, inspired by the social and industrial heritage of Silverburn Flax Mill and the flax industry in Fife. The project lead will be required to devise and deliver up to 16 workshops with a core group of 6 - 8 local young adults in music/sound, composition and editing using the Flax Mill and flax industry as inspiration. An additional 3 x 2 hr workshops with 4 local school groups should be delivered and 4 x 1 hr workshops at Silverburn Festival 2025. The final outcome should be co-created with young adults during these workshops and we require the project lead to support the setup of the performance/playing during the Mill opening event in Spring 2026. The project lead is responsible for providing instruments and any AV equipment for the project. Research volunteers and the Flax Mill Activities Coordinator are available to support the lead musician in researching the Flax Mill and flax industry history. The Flax Mill Activities Coordinator will recruit local young adults for the project. A separate budget will cover volunteer travel and subsistence.
