Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process conducted by the University of Edinburgh pertains to the "Liquid Handler Maintenance" contract, specifically within the Education category and located in Edinburgh, UK. This contract has reached the award stage, with the supplier being Beckman Coulter UK Ltd. The award was finalized on 3rd January 2024, with a contract value of £79,998. This procurement process was undertaken using a limited procurement method, focusing on a single-source supplier due to technical reasons that preclude competition. The rationale highlights the criticality of maintaining the continuity of service for the Edinburgh Genome Foundry's instruments, necessitating a 24-month service contract.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in equipment maintenance services, particularly those with expertise in the academic and scientific research sector. Companies involved in comprehensive maintenance solutions would find this type of contract beneficial for growth, although it's specified that technical exclusivity limits competition. Large-scale enterprises with unique capabilities in handling advanced scientific instruments, particularly those that provide specialised services and equipment parts, might find it advantageous to position themselves for similar future opportunities in academic institutions.
