Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, located in Edinburgh, is currently engaged in a procurement process for a Managed Service for Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT). The procurement, identified as NP5023/14, falls under the services category and serves the UKM region. The process is in the contract update stage, with updates as of 10th September 2025. The initial contract duration was set from 1st November 2015 to 31st October 2025. However, due to implementation delays for a replacement contract, a six-month extension has been granted to ensure continued service. Roche Diagnostics, a large supplier, is the key partner in this contract, providing a fully integrated microbiology managed service system including equipment and support services, crucial for blood, tissue, and stem cell donor testing.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in medical diagnostics, equipment maintenance, and supply chain management. Companies equipped to deliver integrated microbiology services and manage complex supply logistics will find this tender a promising avenue for growth, provided they can offer seamless integration with existing systems. The tender requires specialised assays capable of detecting various RNA/DNA markers in donor samples, suggesting that businesses with innovative solutions in nucleic acid testing and related technologies are particularly well-suited to compete. The ongoing relationship with Roche Diagnostics also underscores the potential value of maintaining strong supplier partnerships to ensure contract fulfilment and continuity.
