Notice Title
Purchase of Dynamic Vessel Analyser
Notice Description
Lab equipment. The Imedos Dynamic Analyser measures large retinal vessels before and during a standardised light stimulus.
Lot Information
Lot 1
Edinburgh Imaging, located in the Queen's Medical Research Institute would like to purchase the Imedos Dynamic Analyser (IDA) to measure flicker-induced retinal vessel reactivity in primary vessel segments of the human retina. This reflects neurovascular coupling and nitric-oxide dependent vasodilation. Impaired flicker-induced reactivity in the retina is associated with several systemic diseases, e.g., longitudinal mortality in renal disease, progressive risk of major cardiovascular events, and high-risk pregnancy. Similar measures of cerebral and retinal vessel reactivity (in response to CO2) are strongly associated with severity of cerebral small vessel disease, indicating potential for clinical translation as prognostic or surrogate markers, but are restricted to research labs. The IDA will enable the measurement of retinal vessel reactivity in human patients in a way that can be directly translated to hospital clinics. Therefore, this equipment will directly enhance the potential clinical impact of several ongoing and upcoming studies of microvascular disease in INCR. These include the Mild Stroke Study 3, and Lacunar Intervention Trial studies (LACI-3, LACI-Cog, etc.), but also studies of renal disease (OCTANE) and pregnancy (iTEST).
Procurement Information
The University of Edinburgh has a requirement for the Imedos Dynamic Analyser. Imedos are the only manufacturer of a device that can measure large retinal vessels before and during a standardised light stimulus (dynamic vessel analysis). For this reason, this purchase was made directly with Imedos Health GmbH via an NCA.
