Summary of the contracting process

The University of Edinburgh appointed a supplier for a Strategic Leadership in Research Training Programme. The service involves co-designing, delivering and monitoring leadership development for experienced mid-career researchers with the potential to become prominent research leaders. It develops research leadership skills and behaviours applicable in internal and external research environments. The programme runs once a year for each cohort, with up to 24 participants, using a combination of in-person and virtual events. Cohorts may be open or targeted. This is a professional training and leadership development service for a higher education institution, delivered for the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh and the surrounding UKM75 area. The requirement is classified under CPV 80500000, covering education and training services.

This procurement has been awarded following an open procedure. The University of Edinburgh selected MY Consultants Ltd for the single lot, and the contract is active. The contract was signed on 24 June 2026. The contract value is £175,604; the tender and lot value was £183,333.34 including a 10% contingency for additional associated services. The contract period is 1,440 days, with the anticipated initial period running from August 2026 to July 2028 and options for two further 12-month extensions, potentially to July 2030. Bids closed on 4 May 2026 at 12:00 and were opened then. Evaluation was weighted 80% quality and 20% price. Eighteen electronic bids were received, all from SMEs.

This award demonstrates recurring demand from the University of Edinburgh for specialist research leadership development delivered at cohort scale. A credible future supplier would need to design and run structured programmes for experienced mid-career researchers, support progression into research leadership, and monitor outcomes across successive annual cohorts. Capability to combine face-to-face and virtual delivery, and to tailor provision for both open and targeted groups, would be relevant. The requirement favours organisations able to demonstrate directly relevant experience in delivering comparable training services. Financial capacity includes a general annual turnover of at least £100,000 over the last three years, subject to the stated treatment for newer businesses. Required insurance levels are £5 million employers’ liability, £2 million public liability and £1 million professional indemnity. Subcontracting arrangements must be declared.
