The National Mining Museum Scotland invites tenders for the full replacement of the elevated gantry checker plate walkway at the A-listed Lady Victoria Colliery site in Newtongrange, Midlothian. The works include removal of existing steel checker plates, inspection and treatment of supporting steelwork, and installation of new 6mm hot-dip galvanised steel checker plates in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461. The contract period is three weeks from 7 April 2026 to 28 April 2026. The works are funded by Museums Galleries Scotland through the Repair and Adaptation Fund programme.

The National Mining Museum Scotland invites tenders for the full replacement of the elevated gantry checker plate walkway at the A-listed Lady Victoria Colliery site in Newtongrange, Midlothian. The works include removal and safe disposal of existing steel checker plates, inspection and treatment of the supporting steel structure, and installation of new 6mm hot-dip galvanised steel checker plates in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461. All cut edges and drilled areas shall be treated with a zinc-rich protective coating to maintain corrosion resistance. The installed surface shall provide adequate slip resistance for pedestrian use. The contract period is three weeks from 7 April 2026 to 28 April 2026.
