Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process led by the Scottish Government involves an award for a contract titled "Award of 0326H - Charter for East Coast Tracking Array." The procurement falls under the services category, specifically ship chartering services (CPV code 63726400). This contract is centred around deploying acoustic listening stations in the Firth of Forth and Tay estuary, aimed at monitoring migratory fish. The procurement has reached the award stage, with a contract value of £4,300 awarded to Green Marine (UK) Ltd, a supplier based in Stromness. The Marine Directorate oversees this procurement, with important guidance provided by contact Bob McLeod from Scottish Government’s Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen.

This tender presents lucrative opportunities for businesses operating in marine and vessel services, particularly those with expertise in deploying acoustic monitoring equipment. Suppliers capable of providing reliable vessels equipped for deploying and possibly retrieving acoustic moorings, especially in challenging sea conditions, would be well-suited for such contracts. This project not only contributes to environmental monitoring but also opens pathways for businesses to establish or strengthen their partnerships with the government, potentially leading to further opportunities in maritime environmental services.

Notice Description

Scottish ministers through the Marine Directorate (MD) invites tenders from suitable vessels to undertake the deployment of 13 acoustic listening stations in two areas, firstly the Firth of Forth and secondly the Tay estuary of Scotland. The moorings enable effective monitoring of migratory fish. These moorings extend no more than 2 meters from the sea bed, have no surface buoy and are normally recovered these via an acoustic release mechanism. On occasion this fails and there is a need to recover the unit via an ROV operated from a vessel.
