Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process initiated by East Lothian Council seeks a service provider for the "Provision of food waste reprocessing." The tender is currently in the active stage, with submissions closing on 1st July 2026. The procurement falls under the general public services category, specifically focusing on managing organic waste in East Lothian, a region defined by UKM73. The Council requires services compliant with BSI PAS 100/110 standards for waste treatment, delivered to the service provider’s facility. The procedure is an open format, allowing electronic submissions via the provided platform link. This opportunity disseminated from East Lothian Council at John Muir House in Haddington highlights the Council's commitment to sustainable waste management practices with a tender period expecting bids until July 2026.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses experienced in waste management, specifically those capable of handling and processing organic waste. Companies possessing necessary licences, such as a valid SEPA permit and APHA approval, are well-positioned to compete, especially those with proven financial stability and technical capacity as evidenced by past similar projects. The procurement explicitly invites businesses to showcase robust environmental management policies, emphasising the importance of climate consideration, quality assurance, and business continuity measures. By engaging with this project, businesses can leverage the chance to secure a contract with East Lothian Council, impacting community benefits and sustainable practices. Those companies innovating within the waste treatment space—providing efficient, compliant, and scalable solutions—stand to gain significantly from successful award outcomes.
