We are seeking a Principal Contractor for a peatland restoration training site at Bunloit, operating over 3 weeks from 31st August to 18th September 2026

Lot Information

Lot 1

Peatland ACTION, in partnership with Highlands Rewilding Ltd, are looking to deliver a machine operator training project at Bunloit on a previously afforested site, with a small number of drains and gullies in open areas. The training will be delivered in 3 consecutive 1-week blocks, commencing 31st August 7th September and 14th September 2026 (these dates are non-negotiable and tenderers must demonstrate that they can adhere to this programme). A different cohort of up to 6 learners per week will take part in the training programme. Learners will be existing operators, experienced in the use of a tracked excavator. Training will be provided to learners whilst they are carrying out the restoration on the site, providing real-life experience to existing machine operators wishing to gain skills in restoration techniques. Learners will be supported by experienced Peatland ACTION project officers and operators skilled in peatland restoration who will provide training and mentoring throughout. The skilled operators will be expected to provide technical demonstrations and support which will allow learners to practice and refine a range of restoration techniques on the site. We are seeking a Principal Contractor, who is able to a) provide and maintain suitable plant for the training site, and b) provide an experienced peatland restoration machine operator/site supervisor and an additional experienced operator to deliver the practical demonstrations. c) fulfil the role of Principal Contractor in regards to site safety and management and to the satisfactory completion of the work d) complete work left outstanding (if any), at the conclusion of the 3 week period
