North Ayrshire Council is planning a services framework for planned, ad-hoc and emergency arboricultural works across North Ayrshire, excluding Arran and the Isle of Cumbrae. The work covers trees on land owned or administered by the Council. It includes felling, removal and disposal, crown lifting, thinning, cleaning and reduction, girdling and removal of ivy, and tree pruning. The service will be delivered by a three-person team working under the Council’s Arboricultural Officer, with the successful contractor’s team leader coordinating with the Council’s own arborists where required. The Council has planned early supplier engagement through a questionnaire and expects the next notice to be published on 20 August 2026. The anticipated arrangement covers one lot. The procedure and final tender requirements are still to be settled through the market-engagement and preparation process. The service is expected to include regular weekday operations, alongside rapid responses to sudden tree failures or developing structural hazards, including work during evenings and weekends. Suppliers should assess the planned scope and engagement material before preparing for the later competition.

This will suit established arboricultural contractors able to provide a coordinated three-person squad and a dedicated team leader, foreman or chargehand. The team must organise work safely and efficiently, operate independently, and collaborate with Council arborists when needed. Relevant practical capability includes tree felling, dismantling, removal and disposal, pruning, crown work, ivy removal and managing structural hazards. Contractors should be able to provide weekday planned maintenance and retain capacity for urgent call-outs at evenings and weekends when sudden failures occur. Working methods will need to be consistent with the risk-control and urgent-works principles in BS3998:2010. The opportunity is intended for preparation at this stage, not for immediate bidding; arboricultural firms should use the engagement phase to understand the Council’s requirements and plan suitable resources.

NAC Streetscene department require a three-man team to work under direction from the Council's Arboricultural Officer, in association with a dedicated / appointed contractor team leader to carry out felling, removal/disposal, crown lifting/thinning/cleaning/reduction, girdle/removal of ivy and pruning of trees within land owned or administered within NAC (excluding Arran and the Isle of Cumbrae). The team will be expected to have a foreman or chargehand within the group to lead and organise the team safely and efficiently. The team will be expected to function as an individual squad but may also be required to work alongside Council's own team of Arborists. The team must be available Monday to Friday. In addition to the above NAC requires the successful company to provide rapid response to sudden tree failures or developing structural hazards consistent with BS3998:2010 sections on risk control and the scheduling of urgent works.
