Summary of the contracting process

The University of Manchester has completed the procurement process for a reactor suite, which includes both a batch reactor and a flow reactor, valued at £170,000. This procurement falls under the category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment and is associated with the sustainable materials industry. The tender was initiated on 1 January 2021, with the contract effective until 31 March 2021. The procurement method used was an open procedure, and the tender period concluded on 18 November 2020. The equipment will be based at the university's sustainable materials innovation hub in Manchester, North West England.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses focused on laboratory equipment and sustainable material solutions, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that can meet the specified requirements. Companies with experience in handling diverse material types and sizes, as well as those familiar with ISO or ASTM protocols, will be particularly well-suited to compete for similar tenders in the future. The presence of the Royce equipment fund, part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, further emphasises the focus on innovation in sustainable plastics, enhancing growth potential for relevant suppliers.

Notice Description

The University of Manchester wishes to purchase a reactor suite, comprising a batch reactor and a flow reactor. This scientific equipment will be housed within the sustainable materials innovation hub at the University of Manchester. We seek two capabilities to support our work; a batch reactor and a flow reactor. The capabilities are to be used for the synthesis and innovations in the area of sustainable materials. It is expected that this equipment will form part of a wider materials characterisation workflow, which will be of interest to various research organisations (including SMEs and Large industry). Consequently, working to (ISO or ASTM) protocols is of interest, as well as, handling different material types and sizes. The Royce equipment fund is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funds having been awarded under the 2014-2020 Priority Axis 1: Sustainable Plastic Innovation in Greater Manchester (OC15R19P 0903)
