Summary of the contracting process

Kier Transportation Limited is seeking contractors for the precast concrete fabrication and delivery needed for the Roundthwaite Bridge structure on the M6 in Lune Gorge, near Roundthwaite. The work covers all associated precast concrete activities, including manufacture and delivery to site of back-of-wall precast concrete units and precast concrete post-tension beams. This is a construction works requirement covering concrete products, concrete slabs, bridge sections and reinforced-concrete structures. The successful contractor would support delivery of a major bridge structure through planned fabrication and site-delivery activities. The requirement is therefore suited to businesses specialising in structural precast concrete production, transport and associated bridge construction supply-chain work.

The procurement has reached tender: Kier invited offers through a selective competitive procedure with negotiation. Bidders were asked to submit offers by 18 September 2026 at 5pm. The planned contract period runs from 1 December 2026 to 1 November 2030. Its estimated value is between £500,000 and £2 million. Delivery and fabrication are intended to take place in three indicative phases: December 2026 to April 2027, December 2027 to April 2029, and December 2030 to April 2032. The requirement is identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. Offers are assessed within a negotiated competitive process, with the buyer applying the Build UK Common Assessment Criteria to establish a consistent minimum level of business competence.

This opportunity suits an experienced precast concrete contractor able to design or manufacture, handle and deliver substantial structural units for bridge works. Relevant capability includes producing back-of-wall precast concrete units and post-tensioned precast beams, coordinating fabrication with site requirements, and arranging reliable delivery to the Roundthwaite Bridge site. Suppliers should be able to support work across several planned production and delivery phases and maintain capacity over a long-running infrastructure project. Kier expects bidders to meet the Build UK Common Assessment Criteria, so businesses should be prepared to demonstrate minimum business competence through the required qualification evidence. A credible portfolio of comparable precast or bridge-structure work, relevant experience and client references will be important when seeking consideration.
