Summary of the contracting process

The Environment Agency (EA) has initiated the planning stage for the upcoming tender titled "Boston Tidal Barrier - Operation and Maintenance - 2026 to 2030." This project falls under the industry category of flood-defence maintenance works and is located in the East Midlands, United Kingdom, specifically around postal code PE21 6BN. The engagement end date is set for 14th March 2025, with the new service contract commencing in January 2026, following the conclusion of the current NEC Term Service Contract in December 2025. EA is addressing the need to ensure the ongoing readiness and maintenance of over 100 individual assets, including a critical radial gate flood barrier that protects significant properties and buildings in the Boston area.

This procurement process presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses specialising in engineering services, consultative engineering and construction services, construction consultancy, and maintenance services. SMEs and VCSEs that provide repair and maintenance services, particularly for electrical and mechanical building installations, will find this tender particularly suitable. Engaging in this tender can enhance business portfolios, establish long-term contracts, and provide significant economic benefits through sustained employment and service provision over a four-year period.
