Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy is conducting the Hydrogen BECCS Innovation Programme: Phase 1, with a focus on developing technologies for the commercialisation of Hydrogen BECCS. This procurement process, classified under the energy industry category, is currently at the award stage. The tender period concluded on 11th March 2022, and the contract is set to run from 8th June 2022 until 13th January 2023. The total budget for this phase is £5 million, aimed at supporting multiple innovation projects with significant project funding available, including contract values ranging from approximately £130,000 to £250,000 for various awarded contracts.

This tender presents excellent opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in energy solutions, engineering services, and other associated innovations in hydrogen production and utilisation. Companies with expertise in research and development, as well as those focused on engineering and design within the public utilities sector, would be particularly well-placed to compete for contracts. Engaging in this process could lead to collaboration opportunities and growth in sectors aimed at achieving negative emissions and advancing hydrogen production technologies.
