Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently conducting a tender for the project titled "STEP WP1 - Engineering Design Information Management (EDIM) Review & Report". This procurement process, classified under the services category and specifically related to nuclear energy, is based in the South East of England. The tender is in the active planning stage and will close for submissions on 22 November 2019, with the contract expected to commence on 9 December 2019 and conclude by 20 March 2020. The procurement method employed for this opportunity is an open procedure, with a total contract value capped at £140,000.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in engineering design and digital information management services, particularly those with expertise in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital twinning techniques. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as the contracting authority seeks a balanced representation for the consortium members. Enterprises offering services in documentation, project supervision, research and development, as well as consultancy services within the nuclear sector, would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract, which aims to innovate engineering strategies for future nuclear fusion projects.

Notice Title

STEP WP1 - Engineering Design Information Management (EDIM) Review & Report

Notice Description

The Client (UKAEA) seeks to modernise and provide innovation for its Engineering Information Management Strategy for the next decade. This work will be used to inform and influence the STEP project. STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) is the UK's study into the feasibility of building a power producing plant using nuclear fusion. The successful Consultant(s) will be selected by the Client to be members of a consortium that produces technological roadmaps that define key engineering technology areas that should be exploited on a 5-10 year timeframe. It should be noted that the Client is limited to an aggregated contract value of PS140,000 and where possible it will be in the interest of the Client to select a balance of representations for the consortium. Engineering information is loosely defined as: Information generated post concept design as a result of design progressing and maturing. This information required is analogous to the information generated using a BIM approach. Using BIM as a starting point the Client wishes to roadmap to future breakthrough use-age cases for both BIM and digital twinning. This work has a key interface with the Digital Engineering Strategy issued to market previously (T-VT066-19 - STEP WP1 - Production of Roadmap). As a starting point, the Client has posed the following questions: What might a breakthrough use case of BIM/IM look like for STEP? What might a breakthrough use case of digital twinning look for STEP? The output of this work will be used to inform: The STEP project and will influence the Digital Engineering Strategy. The wider engineering endeavours of UKAEA in supporting fusion development.
