Summary of the contracting process

The National Maritime Museum in London has awarded a contract for the production of two animated educational videos aimed at primary and secondary students, focusing on the planet Mars and the properties of stars respectively. The tender was part of an open procurement process, which concluded on 6 January 2020, and the contract was awarded on 30 January 2020, with a total value of £14,105. The project is scheduled to commence on 3 February 2020 and is set to be completed by 16 March 2020. This initiative falls within the primary and secondary education services industry category, and it is particularly relevant to businesses involved in animation and educational video production.

This contract presents a significant opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with experience in creating educational content and animation. Businesses that can demonstrate a creative approach alongside adherence to factual accuracy are highly sought after to deliver engaging learning materials for the Royal Observatory Greenwich. The nature of this project, which encourages imaginative input yet requires precision in educational messaging, makes it an ideal opportunity for firms with a robust track record in similar productions and an annual turnover of at least £50,000.

Notice Title

GB-London: Animated Educational Videos For The Royal Observatory Greenwich

Notice Description

The appointed animation studio will design and produce two animated educational videos working from scripts that will be developed by the Royal Observatory Greenwich's learning team. They should both be 3 minutes long but will be aimed at different ages. For primary students, the video will be about the planet Mars and, for secondary students, we will be focusing on the properties of stars. We like to have lighthearted elements in the videos to help our audiences engage with the content and welcome creative input from the animation studio for this but we need to ensure the visuals created are factually correct and therefore the learning team will provide the script and input on the design too. To help us select an animation studio for our project we are inviting applicants to submit a creative response on a given astronomy theme to show us how they would approach animating it with associated visuals of their animating style. This project is most suitable for companies with an annual turnover of at least PS50k Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement. Please inform either dpatel@rmg.co.uk or pskelton@rmg.co.uk by email if you wish to express an interest in this project. Relevant 'Request for Quotation' documentation will then be emailed following the deadline.
