Notice Title

DNA Sequencer

Notice Description

DNA sequencing instrument to deliver a flexible and cost-effective service to researchers in the University, NHS and other external collaborators and customers. This instrument is required to fulfil the role currently served by our Illumina HiSeq 2500 and is complementary to our other sequencing instruments including an Illumina MiSeq, a Pacific Biosciences Sequel, Oxford Nanopore MinIONs. While those complementary instruments provide longer reads useful for de novo assembly, the main functionalities required of the new instrument are high throughput, high accuracy and low cost per megabase of sequence data, and ability to sequence small quantities of DNA sample (nanomoles or less). The main research applications will be re-sequencing of human and other genomes for variant detection, genotyping-by-sequencing, meta barcoding with ITS or 16S rDNA amplicons, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and population genetics approaches similar to RAD-seq. The biological organisms that we study ranges from viruses, through microbes, to higher plants and animals.
