Summary of the contracting process

Solihull MBC (SOL) is currently seeking tenders for the "X488 Newts and Shoots Pond Creation and Enhancement (ERDF)" project, which involves landscaping work classified under CPV codes related to horticultural services and pond enhancement. The contract aims to create and improve 3.83 hectares of semi-natural habitat across seven sites in Solihull Borough, including the enhancement of three ponds and the creation of a new pond to benefit great crested newts. The tender is open for submissions until 18th October 2021, with an estimated contract value of £230,000. Work is scheduled to commence on 8th November 2021 and is expected to be completed by 14th March 2022.

SOL - X488 Newts and Shoots Pond Creation and Enhancement (ERDF)

Notice Description

Since 2017 Solihull Council has been successful with European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) applications to undertake a wide range of habitat and nature improvement projects. This funding has delivered improved conservation status for habitat across publicly accessible green space within the urban areas of Solihull Borough. X488 Newts and Shoots Pond Creation and Enhancement (ERDF) will build upon the achievements of these previously successful schemes by enhancing an additional 3.83 hectares of semi-natural habitat at seven sites within the Borough including: habitat enhancement to three ponds currently in poor ecological condition; creation of a new pond specifically to benefit great crested newts; creation of species rich grassland at two sites; and woodland management at one site. This contract is for the works to create a new pond in one public open space and improve the ecology of existing ponds at three other public open spaces within Solihull borough. The Councils Green Space Strategy review is that By 2025 Solihull aims to provide a network of attractive, high quality, accessible green spaces that are managed and developed, recognising the Borough's landscape character and local distinctiveness, to meet the diverse needs of the community and the natural environment. Our green spaces should be safe, clean and maintained in a sustainable way, becoming an important element of everyday life, for the future enjoyment and well-being of all.
