Summary of the contracting process

The General Medical Council (GMC) is seeking to enhance its staff's understanding of mental capacity and learning disabilities through a tender titled "Mental Capacity and Learning Disabilities Training." This procurement falls under the e-learning services industry and is situated in the North West and London regions of the United Kingdom. The procurement method used is an open procedure. The contract, with a total value of £80,000, commenced on 12th February 2019 and will continue until 11th February 2023. The tender process has recently reached its award stage, with the award notice published on 20th May 2019.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for training providers and consultancy firms specialising in e-learning and human resources management. Businesses that focus on creating engaging training programmes and resources tailored for health professionals, particularly those with experience in mental capacity assessments and learning disabilities, would be well-positioned to compete. The GMC's initiative to train approximately 500 staff members indicates a robust demand for effective training solutions that can scale with the organisation's evolving needs.

Notice Title

Mental Capacity and Learning Disabilities Training

Notice Description

We've been working to improve our ability to identify whether a doctor has considered appropriate support for patients to make decisions, and any concerns around a patient's mental capacity. To support this work and foster an organisational awareness of mental capacity and issues that arise for patients with learning disabilities, we aim to provide: -Awareness sessions to approximately 500 staff in key roles across the GMC and develop an online training resource for ongoing use. As staff join the business or change roles they, too may require training. - A learning resource for GMC Associates. GMC Associates are an appointed group made up of medical (both qualified and trainees) and non-medical (lay) experts who partake in a number of activities across the organisation. GMC Associates are classed as independent contractors to the GMC and are not classed as employees. It is expected that the external training provider will meet with key GMC groups to understand the specific GMC context, including a high-level view of policies and processes.
