Notice Description

Major refurbishment of a 'H' shape building, with accommodation wings of single and 2 storey construction. The former residential home is to be repurposed for the provision of a Special Education Need facility with 30 no. Medical placements. Provision for up to 20 young people (KS3 / KS4) with behavioural issues to access bespoke Maths and English packages in very small group numbers potentially 1:1 and 1:2. A new SEN provision for children with high functioning autism, minimum 20 places maximum 40 places. This site is situated off Orchard Way and Broad Lane, in a predominately residential area to the West of Tiverton town centre. The site is in very close proximity to the Tiverton Heathcote Primary school. Works include three single storey extensions to existing building, a fenced ball court, car parking, external works, soft and hard landscaping along with associated works to services. Small garden areas currently surround the site. The external elevations will be modified with a completely re-modelled main entrance along with window refit and alteration to window openings. Deteriorated fascia, soffits and rainwater goods will be replaced along with the majority of the flat roof areas. The building is strategically arranged in three principle zones: The red zone allows for the provision of 30 medical placements and generally provides the following rooms: - Various Classrooms including Art, Food Technology - Meeting rooms - Staff areas, heads office, reception, staff room - Visiting professional office - Laundry and various WC facilities. - Circulation space with lobbies and waiting areas. The yellow zone allows for Key Stage 3 / Key Stage 4 students with behavioural issues to access bespoke Maths and English packages in very small group numbers potentially 1 :1 and 1 :2. The rooms planned for this area will be as follows: - 3 number Small classrooms and one larger art or practical class room - WC and hygiene facilities - Shared circulation with part of the yellow zone. The Green Zone over 2 storeys allows for SEN provision for children with high functioning autism and generally provides the following rooms: - Classrooms - Post 16 tutor class base - Group rooms - Science lab - Art room - Hall / Dining - Staff areas - Reception , heads office, staff room - Visiting Professionals office - Vocational kitchen - Various WC and hygiene areas - Storage - Lift - Mechanical and Electrical plant/ distribution rooms - Circulation / waiting areas.
