Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the South Gloucestershire Council, seeking tenders for the "Whitfield Tabernacle Stabilisation Works," aimed at restoring a Grade 1 listed building in a state of disrepair. The project is classified under the construction industry, specifically focusing on preservation services for historical sites. The tender is currently active and will be accepting submissions until 17th August 2020, with a total contract value of £650,000. Work is expected to commence on 16th November 2020 and conclude by 1st July 2021. The procurement method employed is the restricted procedure, allowing selected suppliers to bid.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in construction and heritage preservation, particularly small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary and community sector enterprises (VCSEs). Companies with expertise in restoration of historical properties would be particularly well-suited for this project, leveraging the funding available through the West of England Combined Authority's initiative to revitalise local high streets. Engaging in this process could result in sustained business growth while contributing to the preservation of a crucial part of the local heritage.

Notice Title

Whitfield Tabernacle Stabilisation Works

Notice Description

Whitfield Tabernacle is the only Grade 1 listed building in South Gloucestershire. Its buildings have been unused for 27 years and are in very poor condition and are a high priority on the 'At Risk' register. Historic England has stated that the Whitfield Tabernacle is the most important listed building in the worst condition in the whole of the South West Region. The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) recently announced a PS10M funding pot for a series of 'Love our High Streets' projects. South Gloucestershire Council submitted an online business case to WECA proposing investment to support a series of complementary projects on Kingswood High Street and one of these projects is the stabilisation and restoration of the Grade 1 listed Whitfield Tabernacle, such that it can return to community use.
