Summary of the contracting process

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is seeking contractors for the "RML 497 Project - Temporary Building RFQ", a public procurement initiative classified under construction works. The tender is currently in the active phase and will close on 27 July 2018. This project is located in the North East of England and aims to provide a temporary building to shelter the historic vessel RML 497, as well as a steam engine, for a duration of three years while a permanent facility is constructed. The estimated value of the contract is £175,000, with a minimum bid requirement of £50,000. Interested parties should also note that the procurement method is open and follows an open procedure below the threshold.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the construction and temporary structure sectors, particularly those capable of working in marine environments. Companies that specialise in the construction and rental of temporary buildings, as well as those with experience in delivering projects aligned with historical conservation, would be well-suited to participate. The requirement for maintenance services also opens doors for companies offering ongoing support following installation. With the contract not necessarily being awarded to the lowest bid, businesses should focus on showcasing quality and innovative solutions in their proposals.

Notice Title

RML 497 Project - Temporary Building RFQ

Notice Description

Rescue Motor Launch (RML) 497 is a 1941 craft that served with the Coastal Forces during WW2. She is due to be lifted out of the water and then barged up to Hartlepool where she will lie in the car park of the Museum for 3 years whilst a permanent indoor building is built for her. Dimensions (when on a cradle): 35m long x 8m wide x 8m high. We require a temporary building to cover the vessel for a minimum of 3 years. It needs to be able to withstand a marine environment with wind and salt water nearby. The building is anticipated for final installation autumn 2018 upon arrival of the vessel. The building is also required to cover a steam engine with dimensions 9m long x 3m wide x 6m high. Ideally we would like you to sell or rent, deliver, erect and offer a maintenance contract for the cover. It should be noted that the Employer may not necessarily award the contract to the lowest priced tenderer.
