Summary of the contracting process

The tender process was initiated by Swansea University, seeking an operating lease for Biological Atomic Force Microscopy (bioAFM) equipment as part of a £2.6 million project aimed at developing new therapeutics for ovarian cancer. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on microscopy, and it was planned through an open procedure. Although this process has been marked as unsuccessful and discontinued, it underscores the importance of the project within the academic sector. The relevant activities were centred at Swansea University Medical School, located in Swansea, UK, with no specific deadlines mentioned for this particular procurement stage.

This tender presented an opportunity for businesses specialising in medical and scientific instrumentation, particularly those that offer advanced leasing options for bioAFM technology. Companies capable of providing hybrid instrumentation that complements existing facilities could greatly benefit from future submissions related to this project. The focus on developing therapeutics for cancer treatment highlights the demand for innovative suppliers in the healthcare sector, positioning firms that are equipped with the appropriate technology and expertise as potential contenders for participation in similar procurement efforts by the university or other institutions involved in medical research.

Notice Title

Tender for the Operating Lease of Biological Atomic Force Microscopy (bioAFM)

Notice Description

The Cluster for Epigenomics and Antibody drug conjugate (ADC) Therapeutics (CEAT) is a 2.6 million GBP project, led by the Reproductive Biology and Gynaecological Oncology (RBGO) group at Swansea University Medical School and is aimed at developing new therapeutics for the treatment of ovarian cancer. A key output of the CEAT project is to establish a developmental pipeline for bioAFM applications in clinically acceptable in vitro and ex-vivo disease models, providing molecular, cellular and tissue level morphological, topographical and biomechanical information to support epigenomic investigations and the development of advanced therapeutics. As part of this requirement we have identified the need to loan specific bioAFM advanced technology from a reputable, commercial supplier, providing hybrid instrumentation compatible with current bioAFM facilities within SUMS
