Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the University of Sheffield, which is seeking to acquire a High Pressure Shock Tube for its new Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC). This tender falls within the goods category, specifically for laboratory, optical and precision equipment, and is located in Sheffield, UK. The tender is currently active under an open procurement method and will run from 1st August 2021 until 1st October 2021. The deadline for submission of tenders is 15th April 2021, following amendments to the original timeline.

This opportunity to supply a High Pressure Shock Tube offers substantial potential for businesses focused on laboratory and scientific equipment, particularly those specialising in mechanical installations and research and experimental development services. Companies engaged in the study of high-pressure combustion applications, including combustion kinetics and diagnostics, would be well-suited to participate. The funding for this project from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) further underscores its significance and opens avenues for collaboration in pioneering research efforts.

Notice Title

High Pressure Shock Tube

Notice Description

The University of Sheffield (UoS) with funding from European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is establishing a shock tube laboratory as part of its brand-new Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC). The intention of the shock tube is to study high-pressure chemical kinetics of combustion reactions using various diagnostic equipment. The shock tube will be used to study high-pressure and high-temperature chemical kinetics of hydrogen and methane combustion, before moving onto syngas and larger hydrocarbons. The tube will focus on high-pressure combustion applications, such as the Allam-Fetvedt cycle, diesel engine and scram-jet combustion

Lot Information

Lot 1

The shock tube will be used to study high-pressure and high-temperature chemical kinetics of hydrogen and methane combustion, before moving onto syngas and larger hydrocarbons. The shock tube will focus on high-pressure combustion applications, such as the Allam-Fetvedt cycle, diesel engine and scram-jet combustion. The UoS Shock Tube based at TERC will be used to study high-pressure combustion and produce data which will subsequently be used to create a chemical kinetic mechanism for modelling high-pressure combustion.
