Summary of the contracting process

The University of Ulster is undertaking a public procurement process for "Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Maintenance" services, categorised under repair and maintenance services. This tender is currently in the award stage, with a contract value of £300,000. The services are required for the maintenance of various refrigeration and air conditioning systems across the university's four campuses in the UK, ensuring optimal functionality for staff and students. The contract is set to commence on 1 April 2021 and is valid for an initial period of three years, with an option to extend for up to 36 months. The procurement method used is the open procedure, and the tender received four bids before being awarded.

This contract presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in maintenance and repair services, particularly those experienced in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the HVAC sector may be particularly well-suited to compete, given the emphasis on quality criteria including team resources, management capabilities, and responsive out-of-hours repairs. As the university requires comprehensive service coverage for critical equipment, companies with a robust track record in maintaining similar systems and providing reliable service would stand an advantageous position in future tenders.
