Summary of the contracting process

The Science Museum Group, located in London, has completed a procurement process for the title "Science Museum Group Hard Services Maintenance." This tender falls under the industry category of Building and Facilities Management Services, and it utilised a Competitive Procedure with Negotiation. The buying organisation sought a Hard Services partner to provide maintenance across six of its strategic premises, with key requirements including onsite technical support and comprehensive service coverage. Significant milestones include the award date of 31 March 2021 and the initiation date of the tender process, dated 15 April 2021. The procurement process was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Science Museum Group decided to proceed only once normal operations resume.

This contract offers a significant opportunity for businesses in the maintenance service sector, particularly those with experience in facilities management and provision of technical support. Companies that are capable of delivering comprehensive maintenance services across multiple sites and have a strong technical background would be well-positioned to compete in this tendering process. The focus on quality and value for money, with evaluation criteria weighted towards technical solutions, suggests that innovative service providers may have a competitive advantage.

The Science Museum Group wishes to procure a Term Maintenance Hard Services Contract to provide for national cover for our six sites. This procurement process is being conducted using the Competitive Procedure with Negotiation (Negotiated Procedure) as set out in the Public Contracts Regulations (2015). The Science Museum Group has chosen to use the Negotiated Procedure based on the complexity of the sites and the services to be provided where the variety of service solutions provided may mean it proves useful to allow a discussion between the tenderer and the buyer. The Science Museum Group reserves the right to award a contract based on the initial tenders without negotiation.
