Summary of the contracting process

Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd has recently awarded a contract for the "Scotland's Railway Slabtrack Repair & Maintenance Framework" to Aureos Rail Limited. This framework aims to deliver essential repair and maintenance services for 18 miles of slabtrack across Scotland’s Railway. With a completion status marked on 9th February 2026 and a contract term potentially extending over six years, this procurement falls under the 'works' category, specifically focusing on railway construction works in the UK. The procurement process was conducted via a negotiated procedure with a prior call for competition, displaying a selective procurement method. The awarded contract is valued at £30 million; however, no committed spend is required upfront, reflecting the framework's demand-driven approach.

This contract presents substantial opportunities for large-scale rail service companies, particularly those specialising in railway construction and infrastructure maintenance. The scope of work, including logistical support, urgent responses, inspections, testing, and design work, underscores the demand for comprehensive rail-related expertise. Companies that excel in safety, sustainability, and cost management are well-positioned to benefit from this framework, potentially leading to further procurement opportunities through their demonstrated performance and capacity to handle urgent and programmed work efficiently.
