Summary of the contracting process

The Ministry of Defence is conducting a procurement process for the "701577419.1-4 Framework Agreement for the Procurement and Support of an Armalite Rifle (AR) platform" in the Rifles industry category. The procurement stage is complete, with an initial order of £15 million for 1,620 AIW systems, expandable to £90 million over a decade. The contract is awarded to Ian Edgar (Liverpool) Limited. The procurement method is selective, using a restricted procedure. The contracting process was initiated through a tender and has reached the award stage.

This procurement opportunity presents potential growth avenues for businesses specialising in goods related to rifles, scopes, and firearms. Companies with expertise in manufacturing, supplying, and supporting AIW systems within the defence industry would be well-suited to compete. The Ministry of Defence, as the buying organisation, is based in Bristol, United Kingdom. The tender's objectives include fielding AIW systems to the Army Special Operations Brigade for use in complex environments. Key dates, such as the contract signing on 14th July 2023, and deadlines, play a crucial role in this significant procurement process.

Notice Description

An initial circa PS15 million order of 1,620 AIW systems has been placed, with options to procure up to 10,000 systems - totalling circa PS90 million - under the contract over the next decade. Lot Information

Lot 1

The Alternative Individual Weapon (AIW) system - known as the L403A1 and procured by Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) under Project HUNTER - is made up of a new assault rifle fitted with a muzzle signature reduction system and an improved optical sighting system. The AIW is a modern rifle using the latest in design technology and manufacturing methods, to produce an exceptionally reliable and accurate weapon. The magnified optic means the user is able to engage threats from greater distances; whilst the signature reduction system works to mask the AIW from detection from sight and hearing.
