Summary of the contracting process

The University of the Highlands and Islands is conducting a tender for the provision of a Research Collaboration Project aimed at investigating highly antimicrobial inorganic coatings for infection control. The procurement falls under the industry category of laboratory services and is located in Inverness, United Kingdom. The procurement method is an open procedure, and originally, the deadline for receipt of tenders was set for 1 June 2022, but this was subsequently amended to 6 June 2022 due to changes in project requirements. Although the project is currently marked as cancelled, it had previously entailed a comprehensive evaluation of technologies intended primarily for applications in healthcare products, such as surgical instruments and implants.

This tender presents opportunities for businesses focused on innovative laboratory services, especially those specialised in coatings technology, biomedical equipment, and research services. Companies that can demonstrate robust processes in antimicrobial treatments and have capabilities in quality management and assurance stand to benefit the most. The collaboration could lead to further engagements in health-related projects and grants, particularly for organisations with experience working alongside public educational institutions and those familiar with the regulatory frameworks of the European Regional Development Fund.
