Summary of the contracting process

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is initiating a planned procurement process titled "Independent Support Service for Witnesses, Referrers and Members of the Public," aimed at providing support during fitness to practise proceedings within the healthcare sector. This project falls under the services category, specifically related to public telephone services (CPV code: 64211000). Suppliers are encouraged to express their interest via the Atamis e-Sourcing portal as of 24th June 2022, with the procurement exercise expected to commence in July 2022. The anticipated contract value is £180,000, covering an initial term of two years with an optional one-year extension. The delivery of the service will be required across the UK, ensuring prompt accessibility to a 24/7 support line.

This tender represents a valuable opportunity for businesses specialising in helpline and telephone support services, particularly those with experience in trauma-informed care and patient support systems. Companies that can scale their operations to meet demand and provide accessible, responsive services will be well-suited to compete. Engaging in this procurement could enable businesses to contribute to the NMC's critical mission of ensuring support for individuals navigating complex fitness to practise processes, thereby driving growth and establishing meaningful partnerships within the public health sphere.

Notice Title

Independent Support Service for Witnesses, Referrers and Members of the Public

Notice Description

As part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) person-centred approach, and in line with our Fitness to Practise (FtP) strategy, we are committed to providing support to people going through the fitness to practise process. Fitness to practise proceedings can be difficult, stressful and intimidating for witnesses, referrers and members of the public. There is a risk of secondary harm for people reliving their experience as part of an investigation or hearing. We need to be mindful of trauma informed engagement with people we engage with. The NMC require an accessible telephone support line where people, who raise concerns about people on our register, can seek independent support, help and advice. The proposed service should be able to answer calls promptly and be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as required by the NMC and/or client demand. The model of service delivery should allow for scaling up or down to meet the needs of clients.
