Summary of the contracting process

The Scottish Government's Marine Directorate is seeking a supplier for the purchase of Scientific Echosounder Systems for the MRV Scotia, located in Aberdeen, UK. This procurement falls under the goods category and relates to the "Echo sounders" CPV classification. The tender was conducted using an open procedure and is now in the award stage. The awarding of the contract occurred on 30th December 2024, with Echomaster Marine selected as the supplier. Key criteria for the award included delivery of requirements, staff competence, contract management, health & safety, and pricing. The total contract value is £233,120, and the project is aimed at replacing the aging echosounders on the MRV Scotia, which are over 20 years old and currently experiencing operational issues.

This procurement provides significant opportunities for businesses involved in the supply of scientific and marine equipment. Echomaster Marine, an SME, secured the contract, highlighting the inclusivity of smaller enterprises in such significant projects. Businesses with expertise in scientific installations, analytical, forecasting or mathematical software, and those capable of offering high-quality service, technical competence, and strong contract management practices would be well-suited to compete in similar future tenders. The project also emphasises the need for robust health and safety practices and fair work conditions, which could benefit companies with strong credentials in these areas.
