Summary of the contracting process

The Natural History Museum in London has concluded the award phase for the procurement of 3D and 2D exhibition design services, focusing on the creation of a new, permanent gallery aimed at fostering a positive connection to nature among young audiences. This procurement, with the process designed as an open procedure, invites design consultants to collaborate in realising the vision for Gallery 33 in the museum’s South Kensington location. The contract, awarded to AOC Architecture Limited, spans from 11 December 2025 to 31 July 2027, with a gross value of £192,000. The procurement falls within the services category, specifically targeting specialty and graphic design as well as museum-exhibition services, and it marks a significant milestone in the museum's efforts under public undertaking regulations.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for firms in the design consultancy services sector, particularly those proficient in museum-exhibition projects, 3D and 2D design, and multimedia display integration tailored for young audiences and children. SMEs experienced in devising exhibition designs within high-traffic, listed building environments have the potential to excel, as evidenced by the success of AOC Architecture Limited, a London-based SME. The open procedure allowed for robust competition, with eight bids received, seven of which originated from SMEs. Companies with relevant historical and ongoing projects could leverage similar opportunities to enhance their portfolio and expand their market presence in the public domain.
