Summary of the contracting process

On 22nd May 2025, NHS England, a central government public authority based in London, initiated the planning stage of a tender process for a project titled "Digital Primary Care". This initiative aims to replace the existing GPITF framework with new digital technology categories that enhance primary care services. The project focuses on improving patient engagement, population health management, and reducing workforce burdens through innovative IT solutions available on the Digital Services for Integrated Care Catalogue. The procurement is valued at up to £480 million and is set to commence from 1st April 2026, running through to at least 31st March 2029, with continuation options. The future notice regarding this tender is expected by 29th August 2025, as part of a framework agreement.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in software packages, medical software, IT consulting, and data services. Companies meeting the criteria for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly encouraged to participate. Businesses that can provide innovative digital solutions and enhance clinical information systems will find ample opportunities to collaborate within the NHS and its Integrated Care Boards. The framework agreement facilitates smoother market entry and the potential for long-term contracts, making it an enticing proposal for UK-based and international tech firms looking to expand their footprint in the healthcare industry.
