Summary of the contracting process

On 14th July 2026, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) launched a tender for a Framework Agreement centred on the procurement of Multi-Apheresis and Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP) Systems. The procurement falls under the medical equipment industry category and spans multiple locations across the UK such as Bristol, London, and Manchester, among others. This tender is currently active under the 'tender' stage, with significant deadlines including the end of the tender period on 17th August 2026 and the enquiry period ending on 10th August 2026. The procurement method is an 'open' competitive flexible procedure, with a framework agreement scheduled to last until 31st January 2035. The framework, worth up to £59,760,000 in gross value, aims to secure therapeutic apheresis machines, consumables, and maintenance services to support TAS's provision of specialist therapies.

This invitation creates substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in medical equipment manufacturing and maintenance, particularly those with capacities to supply and maintain high-value apheresis systems. SME medical suppliers or larger firms already serving the healthcare sector would find this tender fitting for their growth ambitions. The procurement framework's design allows for multiple suppliers, providing flexibility and scope for sustained business partnerships. Successful bidders will operate under a multi-supplier framework agreement, potentially leading to direct awards or further competition to ensure the NHSBT's needs for quality and cost-effectiveness are met. Businesses well-suited to compete would ideally have expertise in medical technology, strong delivery capabilities across England and Wales, and an ability to meet proactive maintenance and innovation requirements.
